Thank you to those turning up at our Scopes4SEN Solstice Solar Outreach in Tissington Village Hall yesterday. Thank you to the RAS to support and made it possible to have a free entrance, free drinks and snacks, and various handouts, even a free 2019 NighScenes from Paul Money. Thank you so much to Deb and Merv King to donate free cakes (and flowers for Jo!)
We were lucky to watch the Sun through various telescopes, including Lunt, as well as demonstrate the SUNocular and eclipse glasses. Indoors we had a presentation about Solar observations and Summer Solstice, and demonstrations with SunSpotter, projection, welding glasses, and various filters.
Although all free we had £34 donations towards our Scopes4SEN charity.
Next activity partial lunar eclipse 16 July. Mark you diary!
Noctilucent clouds right now well visible in Tissington UK. Look north right now. Hand held iPhone pic.
@GoStargazing has listed all Scopes4SEN events at https://gostargazing.co.uk/event-organiser/7002/. Thank you so much Neill!
Thank you all for those who have donated in our Scopes4SEN money box during Tissington Welldressing. We collected £75.33. The money will be well spend in the charity.
Welldressing is an ancient tradition and dates back hundreds of years and sees handmade floral masterpieces placed at wells throughout places in Derbyshire.
So proud Scopes4SEN is featured in one of the 6 wells in our home village Tissington. The debate we had at home: "Is the little boy in the design, Patrick?" With shorts ... As I am in short all time, winter and summer in this village ...
I asked Nancy Wilton - the designers of Coffin Well were the Wiltons:
Would like to thank you for having Scopes4SEN "embedded" in Coffin Well. How generous and sweet. We Love it!
Jo and I had a "debate" if the little boy in the shorts was just a boy from a school watching the Moon, or was it referred to me because I am wearing shorts winter and summer ;-)
Thank you so much, we are well over the Moon!!!!
We are glad the well has your aproval! And we hope it provides your charity with the publisity it deserves.
Haha we thought the shorts and hawiian shirt would be enough but perhaps we should of put you in the hot tub! .......... Jo wins!
Keep up the good work.
All the Wiltons.
StarLink train just now from different angles, passing Arcturus, through clouds; iPhone pics. From Tissington UK. Fainter, approx 0 to 2 magn. At some point multi trail train. One well behind in about same orbit as the train. Despite the clouds, well nice view.
